Guide to Answering Your Question

During the Black Belt test, each 1st Dan candidate will answer one of the provided questions. Here’s a suggested structure to help you present your answer clearly and confidently:

  1. Introduction: Start by introducing yourself with a confident greeting and share a brief personal background. For example, "Hello, my name is [Your Name]. I am a 1st Dan candidate, and I’m excited to share my thoughts with you today."
  2. State the Question: Clearly state the question you’ve chosen. This helps the audience follow along and understand the focus of your response. For example, "The question I chose to answer is: ‘What does achieving your Black Belt mean to you?’"
  3. Answer the Question: Answer thoughtfully, using examples and specific moments from your training to support your response.
    • Use specific examples from your Taekwondo journey to illustrate your point.
    • Share any challenges you faced and what you learned from them.
    • Connect your answer to the qualities of a Black Belt, such as discipline, perseverance, or respect.
  4. Closing and Thank You: Wrap up your answer with a closing remark and thank the audience for listening. For example, "In closing, achieving my Black Belt means [summarize your main point]. Thank you for the opportunity to share my journey with you."

Remember, the goal is to answer with authenticity and confidence. Speak from the heart, and share your unique perspective on what it means to reach this milestone.

2nd Dan Questions

Choose one question to answer, reflecting on your journey as a Black Belt so far:

  • How has your perspective on Taekwondo evolved since becoming a Black Belt?
  • Describe a lesson you've learned through teaching or mentoring others.
  • What has been your biggest achievement as a Black Belt?
  • How do you feel you’ve grown as both an athlete and a person?
  • What motivates you to pursue higher ranks in Taekwondo?

Self-Reflection Guide

As part of your preparation for the 2nd Dan Black Belt test, we ask that all candidates complete a self-assessment of their attendance and progress over the past year. This self-reflection paper should be turned in by November 27th during the Physical and Sparring session.

  • Attendance and Commitment: Consider your attendance record and consistency. Have you been able to commit to regular classes?
  • Growth as a Martial Artist: Reflect on the skills you've developed since becoming a 1st Dan. Are there areas where you feel you've improved or could improve more?
  • Contribution to the Community: Think about how you've contributed to the Taekwondo community, whether through mentoring or participating in events.
  • Future Goals: As you prepare for 2nd Dan, what specific goals would you like to achieve in the coming year?

Please ensure your self-reflection is honest and thorough. This will be a valuable part of your evaluation process, and it must be submitted by the deadline.

If you have any questions about the upcoming practices, testing schedule, or reflection process, please reach out to us. We’re here to support you in every step of this important journey!
